Tver model conquers world catwalks and helps children

Nadezhda Trokhan’s life is like a fairy tale. At the age of 17, she left Tver for London to achieve dizzying success in the modeling business, and opened her own clothing line… A modern-day Cinderella, isn’t she? Recently, the girl has also become a “good fairy” for many children from Russia – her charitable foundation helps children in need of expensive treatment.

On the eve of March 8, Nadezhda TROKHAN shared with the readers of “AiF in Tver” the secrets of success in personal, professional and public life.

Dreams of England

Hope, most people think of modeling as glossy magazines, traveling, fashion shows, high fees. Is your life really like a fairy tale?

All of the things you’ve listed have their place. But modeling is a huge job, sometimes 14-16 hours a day. Traveling is not only an opportunity to visit exotic countries, but also tiring flights and the language barrier. Even if the model speaks English, and it is necessary to know it, in Japan, for example, you always need an interpreter. There is another nuance that few people think about: for success in modeling, in addition to external data, it is important to be able to work in a team, to be responsible, able to work and not lose your head.

You went abroad as a student. Wasn’t it scary?

I first visited London when I was 17, having finished my first year at Moscow Pedagogical University. I chose the capital’s university because I wanted not only to gain knowledge, but also to become independent and not to depend on my parents. In the summer, during the vacation, I enrolled in additional courses at the London School. There I met people from a modeling agency. That’s how it all began.

It was my dream to live in England. All thanks to Sinitsina Nina Fyodorovna, an English teacher at Tver Gymnasium No. 6. With her stories and lectures, she simply made her pupils fall in love with “Foggy Albion”! Having received my first big contract with producers from New York and Tokyo, I realized that modeling is a very serious business and decided to devote all my free time to it. I had to drop out of university.

How did your parents influence your choice of profession ?

My mother and grandmother always tried to look elegant, even in hard times they remained feminine. My mother is a physics teacher by education, but in her student years she worked as a model, so she always shared my desire to try my hand at this business. My dad was initially against my modeling career, worried about letting my young daughter go abroad. But then he supported me in my choice of profession.

By the way, my parents have an absolutely amazing dating story. My father worked as a doctor in an ambulance. When he was a student, he came to see my mother in practice. When he saw her for the first time, he immediately fell in love and courted her until she agreed to marry him.

For old friendship

In Tver, you created a fund to help children. Have you helped many children?

I had the desire to create a charitable foundation last summer. By September, all the paperwork was ready, and the Charitable Foundation Nadezda was registered in my hometown. It has two areas of activity: health and education. We have already been able to help several children, as well as three children’s centers. During the first charity dinner in London alone, Nadezhda raised 200,000 rubles. We used this money to buy equipment for the children of the Tver Regional Clinical Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.

Old friends, such as Katya Kutayeva, with whom we sat at the same desk for ten years, help me a lot in promoting the foundation. Now she organizes charity breakfasts in Tver to raise funds under the auspices of the foundation. The next charity dinner will be held on March 4.

Russian women are the most beautiful

Probably many girls from Tver modeling agencies dream of repeating your fate. What do you think, do you think they have a chance to conquer the world catwalk and what do they need for that?

Tver agencies can give a good start for the modeling profession. But it is worth remembering that this is only the first step. Serious modeling has an international character. You have to go to auditions, get to know people. You never know where you will meet a photographer or a modeler, with whom you will have the opportunity to work in the future. Now 30 or 40% of models on the world catwalk are Russian, and girls from Tver definitely have a chance to be among them. But outside of shoots, castings and shows, it is important to keep improving as a person. More and more fashion houses want to work not only with beautiful faces, but with intelligent, interesting women who do something for society and are involved in charity projects.

International Women’s Day is approaching. Do they celebrate the 8th of March in England?

Yes, London celebrates International Women’s Day. I have even accustomed my husband to this holiday. I congratulate all the female readers of your weekly on March 8, wishing them a spring sky above their heads, more positive emotions and love!
